The PTA
of PS 372

Everyone with a student at The Children’s School/PS 372 is a member of the parent-teacher association (PTA). See how you can make a difference in your child’s school.

How the PTA supports our school

The PTA has a few primary responsibilities

  1. Facilitate collaboration among teachers, administrators and families

  2. Raise funds to support programs in our classrooms

  3. Create and run events that unite our school community

PTA funds help our school in many ways

  • Purchasing iPads and computers

  • Providing new sports and occupational therapy equipment

  • Funding field trips, studios, and special programs (architecture and chess, for example)

  • Enhancing art and music programs, including a 5th grade musical

  • Awarding grants to classroom teachers and specialists for books and other educational materials

The PTA also organizes fun family events throughout the year, including Pizza Friday, the school carnival, Valentine’s Day dance, movie nights, and an auction party for parents.

We fund all of these efforts through tax-deductible donations from families. There are no formal dues to be paid, and everyone with a child at PS 372 is automatically part of the PTA.

How to get involved

The PTA meets monthly to provide a forum where members of our community can ask questions and share ideas or concerns.

There are also opportunities throughout the school year to volunteer for events and committees. Participation at any level is welcome.

Current members of our community can view volunteer opportunities on Konstella. Or, contact the executive board at executiveboard@ps372pta.org.

The School Leadership Team

The School Leadership Team (SLT) is a collaborative team of parents, teachers, staff, and the principal that determines the school’s annual goals and develops the school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan for the year.

The SLT is mandated by state law* and comprised of seven staff members (elected by the staff) and seven parents (elected by the parents) who serve two-year terms.

The team provides an excellent forum for parents to make a valuable contribution to our school and ensure that family voices are represented.

Beyond the original mandate, our SLT has also chosen to work on issues such as student diversity, school safety, and parent-teacher communication.

Participation

All members of the school community are encouraged to join SLT committees. All SLT and committee meetings are open to the school community. For more information or to join a meeting virtually, contact slt@ps372.net.

*Under State Education Law, Section 2590, all New York City public schools are required to establish School Leadership Teams. SLTs must comply with the current Chancellor’s Regulation A–655.
